Rankin.

This picture is an unusual style, plainly because it is so close up and Rankin had cropped the top of his head off. This shouldn’t be done when it comes to portraiture, however in this case , it adds to the image and makes the face the focus as it is in the foreground. This picture has used the rule of thirds. The shoulders which are in the background are situated on the bottom horizontal line. The eyes are on the top intersect of the lines which draws the lookers attention. As well, they are styles with black around them so that the white on the inside stands out. The editing skills to make it black and white with quite a high contrast. The brightness of the teeth makes them show up and contrast with the brightness of the top. This also contrasts with the whiteness of the background. The background being this pure white colour means his skin stands out and is the prominent thing in the picture (the main focus.)

How well image is edited, with having the contrast from the pure white background and the pure black of his polo top. Having the model do an ‘ok’ sign with his finger, draws the attention too his eye. If I was to recreate this image then there is nothing I would change about this image I feel it works really well as it is. It has put a modern twist on portraiture.

The picture with all the mouths is so different to other portraiture, which is what I am looking for in a picture and what I am aiming to do with my portraiture. This image is very quirky and different. There is a bold focus with the eye make up the hair and the mouths that there wasn’t a need for the body of the person to be in the picture. As well you can see all the wires attached to the mouths, this gives it an element and shows how Rankin did it. The plain background emphasises the face, whereas the shine on the hair give the picture texture. There is one part about this picture in which I don’t think add anything to it, this is where he has cropped out some of the mouths. If I was to recreate this image,  I would keep all the mouths in. the flicks with the eye makeup draw your eyes out of the picture, so it meets with the other mouths.
